Abstract

This article analyses life story and work of Dr. h. c. prof. JUDr. Karol Rebro, DrSc., Dean of Faculty of Law of the Comenius University (then called The Slovak University) in the years of 1946/47 and Rector of Comenius University in academic year 1949/50. The article seeks to point to contribution of Professor Rebro to development of Slovak legal sciences, it conducts analysis of some of his monographs and other works, placing his scientific work in a timeline within chronology of his life. Professor´s life has been marked out by his participation in the Slovak National Uprising and later by the Communist regime persecution in years 1951 - 1954. Based on our analysis of Professor Rebro´s scientific work this article has partially highlighted the development of Roman law as pedagogical discipline in Slovakia.
