Institutions Acting in Competition Cases and their Independence

This article is dedicated to an important problematics of institutions’ independence. In particular, it focuses on the Antimonopoly Office of the Slovak Republic. Since the definition of the notion of independence is not uniform, the article outlines certain expert sources and it summarises which elements must be fulfilled, according to these sources, in order to establish that an institution is independent. A question on whether the requirement for expertise is sufficiently reflected into these elements is discussed as well. The article shows that there is a room for theoretical and practical fine-tuning of this issue.
